John and Kerry Cox accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior in 1969 as a result of the witness of John's boss in Biloxi, MS. John built racecar engines for 12 years. At the same time Kerry and he began working with youth at a local servicemen's center -- that work later incorporating as Grace Bible Church of Biloxi in the mid-1970s. Studying the Bible for their work with youth, filling the pulpit, and some Bible school by correspondence served as their preparation for future ministry. In 1981 they were called to the pastorate of an independent Bible church in Walton, IN, where they served for eight years. It was during that time that they began to form close ties with Grace Ministries International. During their stay in Indiana, their love for children began to change the complexion of their family. After having two biological children, Sean and Theresa, they began taking foster children into their family, one of which they adopted, Jaymin. In 1990 they felt distinctly called to do camp work in Puerto Rico with GMI. That ministry was a blend of everything that the Lord had been developing in them throughout their lives.
Their ministry in camp covered 10 years, after which their daughter and son-in-law, Jon and Theresa Marshall, came and took over the work. They then constructed a house in a local poor community with the idea that they would plant a church. A church in the traditional sense has not happened. What has happened is that their home has become a refuge for the poor, addicted, mentally troubled, neglected and abused. Using only one year as an example, July 2008 to July 2009, eight different people have lived with them, the longest for one year and the shortest for three weeks. Kids from all over the neighborhood come to play, eat and get help with schoolwork. Their ministry does not have a schedule; it continues with the next person to walk through the door.
