Zambia Update - Sally Roth is in Seattle where she continues to recover from a second knee surgery. A "Cyclops lesion" and other debris were removed from her knee giving her more range of motion. She is involved in physical therapy, as well as having regular chiropractic care for back and neck problems. Pray for a complete recovery with full knee extension and range of motion prior to her return to Zambia in mid-April. Pray for the team of six from Seattle as they install electricity in Zambia Grace Bible Institute this month and then travel to Malawi to complete the new conference room at the lake shore Bible Training Center in Salina.
Dr. Sam Vinton, Jr. - Dr. Sam underwent triple bypass surgery on March 12. Praise the Lord that he is now at home recuperating. Please continue to pray for him as he recovers and returns to full health.
News from Bolivia - GMI and the MEB are teaming up to help our pastors further their educational level by studying at the Evangelical University in Santa Cruz. For $300/pastor/year we can help these men get their BTH at the University. At present there are eight men who are interested in continuing their theological studies. They are praying that some of these men will then be able to go on for their master's degrees. Bolivia needs men and women who are prepared to teach and lead others.
Easter Eggs in the Rukwa Valley - Not exactly Easter eggs, but Ted Rabenold reports that in order to impact the local farmers and further spread the Gospel, they've begun a new project of bringing in layer hens (baby chicks) from Zambia. They teach seminars on the hens and how they can impact the diets and economy of the local people. After the seminar, they sell the chicks to those who are interested. There are NO layer hens in Sumbawanga or the Rukwa Valley. Pray that this outreach will improve conditions in the Rukwa as well as present opportunities to share the Gospel with many people outside the church walls.
Candidates - In the March 1-2 meeting of the GMI Board of Directors, Titus and Kristy Lloyd of Huntington, IN, were accepted as missionary candidates to Zambia. They have two sons, Zechariah (3) and Matthew (1-1/2). The Lloyds will be working in the area of computer technology at Zambia Grace Bible Institute and the Kabwe computer training center. One goal will be to broaden the training center's ministry into an internet cafe. The Lloyds also desire to train youth and children's workers.
Pray for Paul and Stella Baily as they meet with individuals in the Seattle area sharing their burden that the Lord has laid upon their hearts to minister together with Kevin and Lisa Crouse in the ministry in Australia. Pray for steady work for them (they are self-employed) as they raise their support to go to Australia.
Chad Gross, a young man with building experience from the Ashtabula, Ohio area, has been accepted for a two-year term to work with Fred and Karen Vinton in Kipaka, Congo. Chad will direct the construction projects of the Kipaka Medical Center.
Pray for Aimee Johnson from Bethesda Church in Minneapolis, MN, who has been accepted for a one-year term to serve in Montevideo, Uruguay, as she is raising her support in the Midwest.
Malawi Update - Praise the Lord for the new 20-acre plot of land given to the Grace church in Malawi for a primary school in Senga Bay on the coast of Lake Malawi. Pray as they use the 40,000 bricks and various donations to build the school before the end of the year. Pray for Joel and Darcy Molina and their family as they raise support and prepare to leave for Malawi/Mozambique in July.
Survivor Games at Campamento del Caribe - Jon and Theresa Marshall hosted a retreat, "Uni-Challenge" at Campamento Del Caribe with youth groups from four churches. Uni-Challenge was a one-day "survival games"-based experience with competition between youth groups. One of CDC's objectives is to raise awareness of CDC among the Puerto Rican churches. CDC desires to serve the churches and help facilitate oportunities for spiritual ministry with their youth. PTL that the camp has hired Janice as a full-time program/promotion director. She has been involved in a part-time capacity but will be a great help and encouragement to Jon as the camp ministry continues to expand.
Megin Ten Hoeve - Megin began her 6-month accounting ministry by training with Jim Molenkamp, GMI's business manager. After "learning the ropes" from Jim, she will begin her overseas ministry by visiting the Zambian field for a month where she will work with both the missionaries and the national church leaders. Pray that she'll be a blessing, help, and encouragement to those she works with.
