Ricki Anne in Uruguay - PTL that Ricki Anne Zanella arrived safely in Uruguay on August 16. In preparation for the focus of her ministry in Uruguay, Ricki Anne spent the last academic year working on a master’s degree in women’s ministries at Multnomah Seminary. She will be completing her degree when she returns to the States on her next home assignment. Pray for Aimee Johnson who has been accepted by the GMI board to serve in Uruguay with Ricki Anne. PTL for the good VBS that Aimee was involved in at Bethesda Church in Prior Lake, MN. We are praying that she can leave for Uruguay in November, the Lord willing.
Work Team in Costa Rica - Our Costa Rica missionaries express their appreciation for the good number of church work/ministry teams who worked with them this summer. A team of 22 from Rush Creek Bible Church (Byron Center, MI) helped the church conduct "Kids Games" which was attended by 186 children. Between 15-20 children made professions of faith in the Lord Jesus. The attendance at the closing ceremony was 310 parents and children. Seventy-five percent of those attending were from the community but not part of our church. The teams also worked on the building pouring cement columns for the construction of Sunday school classrooms. The last team of the summer (August 17-27) was the second group from the Berean Bible Church of Spokane, WA. If you desire to be a part of a team next summer, please contact Don Ten Hoeve here at the GMI office.
Brook Seekins on Home Assignment - Brook Seekins, missionary working in Tanzania, arrived back in the States the end of August to begin a six-month home assignment. Praise the Lord for the good youth camps she was part of this past summer and for the youth who trusted the Lord Jesus as their Savior. Brook will be visiting a number of churches and friends during her time in the States. Pray for safety as she travels and for spiritual refreshment as she is ministered to by God's people.
Running Over - In Luke 6:38, we read the following words of the Lord Jesus: "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap." Several months ago we heard of a strong wind that blew through our Kama mission station in Congo and blew off the roofs of dozens of buildings. We set a goal of reroofing ten buildings, among them the two large high schools, the Bible School, kindergarten, and grade school. We are grateful to the Lord that through His people we have received gifts to reroof not ten buildings, but at least thirteen! Talk about a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over! Praise the Lord and thanks for the generosity of His people.
New MK - Congratulations to Cory and Kim Hodgson on the birth of their second child, Elijah Wade, born on August 6. Pray that all the paperwork will be done expeditiously so they can return soon to their ministries in Tanzania.
Puerto Rico Update - John Cox requests prayer for new leaders taking positions of responsibility in the church and the start up of the kids' club ALAS (AWANA). He also has a special prayer request for Mara who has run away. Pray that the Lord Jesus would "catch" her.
India - Please continue to pray for the freedom to share the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Pray also for Christians who are being persecuted in certain areas of the country. Pray that Subash and Sandra Muthyala and their co-workers will lovingly share the good news of salvation that is found only in our Lord Jesus Christ. In a country with millions of gods, the uniqueness of Christ finds much opposition.
Bolivia Leadership Training - We are thankful for the good number of students who are studying with Talo Vergara and Jerry Olson in conjunction with the evangelical university in Santa Cruz where they will receive their degrees. Pray for men who will be willing to become pastors and church planters.
Roths in Malawi - PTL for the many who have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior during the past several months in Malawi. Wherever there are believers Kennedy Simtowe starts what he calls a "preaching point." Since we don’t have pastors to shepherd the believers, Kennedy is teaching and preparing elders who will be responsible for the newly-formed groups. During the last ten days of August, Jeff and Sally Roth from Zambia went to Malawi and helped Kennedy teach groups of elders who were gathered in the capital city of Lilongwe. Please pray for our missionaries who are involved in the training of church leaders. Since many of our church leaders cannot leave their homes and jobs to become full-time students at a Bible institute, it is necessary to develop new and different ways of training church leaders.
